Updated wage rates for Group 2 awards

On 19 June 2020, the Full Bench of the Fair Work Commission (‘Commission’) handed down its annual wage review decision. A summary and key features of the decision were outlined in our circular dated 19 June 2020 and also 15 October and included the following:

  • Minimum wages in modern awards will be increased by 1.75% from the start of the first full pay period on or after (ffppooa) 1 July 2020 for Group 1 Awards.
  • Minimum wages in modern awards will be increased by 1.75% from the start of the ffppooa 1 November 2020 for Group 2 Awards (see list below).
  • Minimum wages in modern awards will be increased by 1.75% from the start of the ffppooa 1 February 2021 for Group 3 Awards.

National Training Wage

As a reminder, the operative dates of the wage increases for employees undertaking a traineeship under the National Training Wage are in accordance with the operative dates mentioned earlier for the Group 1, Group 2 and Group 3 Awards. To be clear, this includes modern awards that refer to and incorporate the terms under Schedule E of the Miscellaneous Award 2020, which has an operative date of 1 November 2020.

  • Plumbing and Fire Sprinklers Award 2010
  • Textile, Clothing, Footwear and Associated Industries Award 2010
  • Wool Storage, Sampling and Testing Award 2010

The new ‘2020’ modern awards now have summaries of pay rates and allowances in the Schedules of these Modern Awards, therefore, new pay and allowances summaries will not be created moving forward for same modern awards. The Commission has now updated all of the ‘2020’ modern awards to include the 1 November 2020 increases.
